Using the beginning of the traditional poem “Roses are red,
Violets are blue…” write a short Valentine song. You will need to come up with the ending of
the poem using standard rhyming techniques.
For your melody, you will need to decide on a rhythm that works best with
the lyrics and the syllables of each word.
¶ Write
your melody in F Major.
¶ Your
melody can be in 4/4 or 3/4.
¶ Be
sure to end on F.
¶ Using
a V-I cadence would be best. (What is a V-I cadence?)
¶ Write
the assignment in FLAT using your instrument as the melody line.*
¶ Add
the lyrics using the Lyric tool.
