Performance of Raiders March (period 1) or Across the Stars (period 3) in Smart Music.  This will be set-up as a sight-reading performance and you will only have one chance to perform it.  Practice tracks are now available.

Take Home Essay (20 points)

In this 500-word essay, answer the following questions:

1.  How have YOU improved this year as a performer and member of the Orchestra?  Include at least THREE areas in your response.  These can include rhythms, shifting/positions, bowing, vibrato, note reading, tone, ensemble playing, practicing, etc.

2.  How has the ORCHESTRA improved throughout the year?  Include at least TWO areas in your response.  Do NOT mention dynamics in your response.  You can include style, phrasing, accuracy of note and rest value, steadiness/precision, intonation (tuning), tempo, expression, emotional involvement, teamwork.

3.  How can the Orchestra continue to improve?  Include at least TWO areas in your response.  Use the same areas mentioned in question 2.

This essay is due on the exam day at 10:30 a.m.

Composition Completion (10 points): Waltz

Complete the following composition using the following guidelines.

Follow these guidelines:

• In 3/4 time
• 12 measures in A B A form
• F Major (be sure to start and end on F)
• The end should be a V-I cadence, or the fifth note followed by the first
• Use only half, quarter or eighth notes or rests (including dotted values)
• Add a tempo marking
• Add dynamics
• Add bowing articulations
• Complete in Finale Notepad
