Composing an Answering Rhythm

Composing a rhythmic answer

When you write a rhythmic answer, you should look at the kinds of rhythm that were used in the beginning bars. What note values were used, and which values weren't used? You should use the same kinds of rhythms in your answering phrase as you have in the given phrase.

Here are some suggestions for writing an answering rhythm:

  • Create a mirror image of the rhythm;

  • Use the same blocks of rhythm but change their order;

  • Or, write something completely new, but only for one or two beats' worth.
A worksheet on this was email home to you.  Please complete it and return it on Thursday, September 13.
