GarageBand Tutorial

Some of you have asked for a tutorial for Garage Band.  If you are having difficulty working with GarageBand, here are some guidelines:

·         Open GarageBand and choose Empty Project or New Project
·         In order to get a steady beat, you will want to add a drum beat first.  From this new open workspace, click on the LOOP icon to add a drum loop.  A new window of loops will open and you can choose the one that you like best.  You will drop the drum loop into dark gray work area.  To increase the length of the loop, click on the upper right corner of the loop and drag to end of your section (17 measures is good).

·         Next, you will want to record your audio.  Click Track > New Track
o   In the window that opens, choose REAL INSTRUMENT

·         If you want to add some Jingle Bells or other auxiliary percussion, click Track > New Track > Software instrument.  (This is an extra step that is not necessary)

o   This will open a sidebar with various instruments.  Choose Drum Kit.  If you don’t have a MIDI keyboard added to your computer, you can find a piano keyboard for your desktop under Window > Show Keyboard.  By clicking various notes on the keyboard, you may find types of percussion you would like to add.
