Final Exam Study Guide

The take-home essay must be completed by all Orchestra members (including seniors). The questions are available in the post below.  It is worth 20 points on the exam.

THERE IS NO RUSH TO FINISH THIS EXAM ON MONDAY. When taking the test, be sure to read ALL OF THE DIRECTIONS on the exam. There are many questions with two parts. Once you are finished, you will proceed to the Pomp & Circumstance rehearsal with the Band.

Listening:
There will be a short listening excerpt. You will need to listen for instrumentation, time signature and style. It will be Baroque, so be sure to look on the wiki for information on style and form.

Music Theory:
You will be asked to look at a piece of music and all the various instructions on it. These can include the tempo markings (largo, andante, presto), articulations (staccato, legato, slurs, fermata), dynamics, expression terms (dolce, espressivo, marcato).

You will have two sections on Rhythmic Counting. You have completed two worksheets that are similar to what will appear on the exam.

Music History & Performance:
Review the Wiki so you know about the Baroque era (1600-1750). You should know that it began in Rome, Italy and spread through most of Europe. You should know the composers of the era (Purcell, Pachelbel, Vivaldi, Telemann, Lully, Handel, Bach). You should know the instruments of the time, especially those that were developed then.

Composition:
The composition will be very similar to the Partner Song that you wrote.

There will be one extra credit question.

If you have any questions, please email Miss Minnis at JMinnis@darienps.org.
