Mid Term Information

The Orchestra Mid-Term will be held on Friday, January 18th at 10:30 a.m. It will consist of multiple choice questions on music theory and history, a short composition using what you have learned so far this year, and a memorized performance of "The Star Spangled Banner."

You must perform the memorized piece for me before January 18th. You will not be able to use any music for this performance. It will be worth 30 points of the mid-term.

Here are some important facts that you need to know for the Mid-Term:
  • The concerto grosso is a form of baroque music in which the musical material is passed between a small group of soloists (the concertino) and full orchestra (the ripieno).
  • We preformed two concerti grosso--Palladio by Karl Jenkins and Corelli's Christmas Concerto.
  • The first major composer to use the term concerto grosso was Arcangelo Corelli.
  • Pavane by Faure was composed in the Romatic era.
  • The order of the musical eras: Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Modern.
